Festival Wear for Women: Shop by Festival

Indian festivals each have their own mood, colours and traditions. Here is what to wear for the most popular ones, and where to find it at Premkala.

Diwali outfits for women (8 November 2026)

Diwali is a five-day festival, from Dhanteras on 6 November to Bhai Dooj on 10 November. You do not need five completely different outfits. Pick two or three pieces and style them differently.

  • Dhanteras (6 Nov): gold, yellow and warm tones. A kurta set with dupatta works well for shopping and puja at home.
  • Lakshmi Puja (8 Nov): this is the main evening. Choose rich colours like rani pink, wine, emerald or mustard, in a set with a dupatta.
  • Govardhan Puja (9 Nov): earthy, comfortable and easy to move in.
  • Bhai Dooj (10 Nov): relaxed festive style, such as a co-ord set or short kurta palazzo set.

Navratri is nine nights of colour, garba and dandiya. For these evenings, you want something light, breathable and easy to dance in. Co-ord sets and short kurta palazzo sets are popular because they give you freedom of movement without a heavy dupatta.

2026 colour guide: Orange, White, Red, Royal Blue, Yellow, Green, Grey, Purple and Peacock Green. Our lemon yellow cotton co-ord set is an easy pick for Yellow Day.

Bhai Dooj and Raksha Bandhan outfits for sisters

On Bhai Dooj and Rakhi, the sister usually does the tilak and aarti, then sits down for a family meal. Choose something that looks festive and stays comfortable through the visit: a cotton kurta set with dupatta, or a pastel co-ord set. If you are shopping for a sister, a kurta set also makes a thoughtful gift. See our guide to Bhai Dooj gifts for sister.

Karwa Chauth and Dussehra

For Karwa Chauth (29 October 2026), red, maroon, pink and gold are traditional. Choose a soft cotton set so that a long fasting day stays comfortable. For Dussehra (20 October), bright festive colours and light cotton are a good pairing for daytime celebrations.

Puja, mandir and temple wear

Temple visits call for modest, comfortable clothing. Look for kurta sets with full-length pants or palazzo, 3/4 or full sleeves and a dupatta. Our temple and pooja kurta sets are made for exactly this.

Other festivals and celebrations

For Ganesh Chaturthi, Teej and Chhath, choose traditional colours in cotton. For Holi, wear white or pastel cotton you do not mind colouring. For Eid, Christmas and New Year, an Indo-western co-ord set or one-piece dress with festive accessories works well.

Shop festival wear by style

  • Kurta sets with dupatta: the classic three-piece look, right for pujas, family functions and Diwali evenings.
  • Short kurta palazzo sets: light and easy for Navratri and daytime festivals.
  • Co-ord sets: stylish, easy to wear again, ideal for Bhai Dooj and casual festive days.
  • One piece dresses: a modern option for parties and get-togethers.
  • Indo-western outfits: for those who like a mix of traditional and contemporary.

Why cotton is the right choice for festive wear

Indian festivals fall in warm, busy, and often humid weather. Cotton breathes, feels soft on skin, and stays comfortable through long pujas, family meals, and late-night garba. It is also easy to care for and takes colour well, which is why most Premkala festival pieces are cotton.

How to choose your festive outfit

  1. Match the occasion: puja and temple need modest cuts, parties allow more shine.
  2. Consider the hours: if you will be on your feet all day, pick a light fabric.
  3. Pick a colour with meaning: for example, orange and yellow for early Navratri days, red and gold for Karwa Chauth.
  4. Check the size chart: measure bust and waist before ordering.
  5. Plan accessories first: jhumkas, bangles and juttis can change the whole look.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear for Diwali?

Choose a kurta set with dupatta or an ethnic co-ord set in a rich festive colour such as rani pink, wine, emerald, mustard or gold. Cotton and light silk-feel fabrics stay comfortable through puja, visiting family, and evening celebrations.

When is Diwali in 2026?

Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The five-day festival begins with Dhanteras on 6 November and ends with Bhai Dooj around 10 November, depending on your regional calendar.

What are the Navratri colours for 2026?

Sharad Navratri runs from 11 to 19 October 2026. The nine colours are orange, white, red, royal blue, yellow, green, grey, purple, and peacock green, in that order.

What should I wear on Bhai Dooj?

A festive but comfortable outfit works best. A cotton kurta set with dupatta suits a traditional look, while a co-ord set or short kurta palazzo set suits a relaxed one. Soft pastels, pinks, yellows, and reds all work well.

What is the best fabric for festive wear in India?

Cotton is a strong choice for festivals because it is breathable, soft, and comfortable in warm weather. It works especially well for long days of puja, family gatherings, and dancing.

What should I wear to a temple or puja?

Choose a modest, comfortable outfit: a kurta set with full-length pants or palazzo, 3/4 or full sleeves, and a dupatta. Avoid very short, sheer, or heavily embellished pieces for temple visits.

What should I wear for Karwa Chauth?

Red, maroon, pink, and gold are traditional choices. A soft cotton kurta set with dupatta keeps you comfortable through the day, and you can add bangles and jhumkas for the evening.

Should I choose a kurta set or a co-ord set for festivals?

A kurta set with dupatta is the traditional option for puja, weddings, and formal family functions. A co-ord set is more contemporary and easy to wear again, which suits Navratri nights and casual festive days.
